Shower tray junctions that leak

When wall tiles stop short of the tray upturn, water finds the gap.

Sunbury 3429 · 16 July 2026

In short: A preformed shower tray is only as good as the junction with the wall tiles.

The finding

Wall tiles did not extend over the tray upturn, leaving the junction relying on sealant that had perished.

The damage

Floor finishes beside the shower were swollen and deformed, consistent with long-term moisture.

Why it happens

The tray and the tiling are often done by different trades without anyone checking the junction.
